This is a very cute restaurant! My boyfriend and I were stopping by depoe bay to get some lunch and decided to try chowder bowl and I'm glad we did! It was clean, friendly and the decor was very cute. I got the cheddar tuna melt and it was delicious! My boyfriend got the pulled BBQ salmon sandwich and that was the best thing I have had in a long time. I think I have a new favorite meal at the coast! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and made good time even though he was the only waiter there. I will definitely be returning to chowder bowl again!

Delicious, thick, creamy and tasty chowder. Great ambience, too with the train that goes around the restaurant. Good service.

the chowder was excellent we have it whenever we come to the coast. and the hamburgers were a juicy delight

Nothing to write home about. Service was very good, quick and friendly. Being named Chowder Bowl one would think chowder was the shining star of the menu......NOT. Plenty of clams in a white thick non tasting gravy, served with oyster crackers that were clearly not of high quality. The non seafood eaters did not enjoy the pressed turkey in the sandwich or club sandwich. Chicken strip meals looked great, like they actually used real chicken breast and breaded it themselves, BUT the fat that was hidden under the breading was not found to be appealing, thus one bite of chicken strips eaten and the fries finished off. Too many places to choose from................. dine elsewhere.

When we got to Depoe Bay, it was cold and rainy so we were craving something to warm us through. We decided to get some hot clam chowder so we stopped by to try their "award winning" clam chowder. Overall the chowder was good (but not great) and the sourdough bowl they served it in was fresh and tasty. The interior is lacking but it does add to the charm the bay has to offer.

I'm so livid, I can't even begin to explain my thoughts and feelings about the substances they serve and call food. First of all, the food came out way too fast. My mozzarella sticks came out undercooked with some weird kind of ketchup. My tuna melt was soggy and sloppy looking. Don't get me wrong, the waitress was great, friendly, amazing and very very nice and attentive even though the place was busy. Very nice. The food, however, was not. I'd rather eat my own hand. The first thing that came out was the oyster shooters, only there wasn't any oysters in them. So they brought another round, ten times more disgusting looking. Maybe that's just me because I hate oysters (my boyfriend got them) and what makes me so pissed off, is that there was a piece of an oyster shell the size of my eyeball in one of the shooters. Yes it went into his mouth, and yes he could have swallowed it and potentially cut the inside of his throat. Thankfully he noticed it (who wouldn't it was as big as my fucking eyeball). Oh. Also, the clam chowder was mediocre. Talk about false advertising. And I ordered hot chocolate, never got it. Kinda glad, with the food that came out I slowly started to expect my hot chocolate just being hot water with a dash of cocoa powder in a paper cup that had "enjoy fucker" on it. So thanks.

This place was welcoming and friendly. My group and I walked in and were welcomed immediately. It felt good to know that your existence does matter. I ordered the Oyster Stew and it was delicious. I love the rich, buttery, and seafood taste. The oysters tasted so fresh as if they just came out of the sea. Everyone else in my group seemed to really enjoy their food. I will definitely stop in again if I ever stumble upon Depoe Bay in the future.

It was the worst fish and chips, chowder, and clam strips. Chowder was just thick and pasty with no flavor or clams. The cod fish and chips were dry and tough. The clam strips reminded me of frozen store bought. Very disappointed. Service was great though.

Walking along the shops in downtown Depoe Bay and spotted this resto. The husband and I shared a bowl (to go) and were both satisfied. It hit the spot! A few days later we went back and got the pre made ones where u add milk to enjoy at home. It didn't quite have the same taste for me. It lacked the fresh taste and tasted a bit bland for me. So fresh is definitely the way to go.

Food was okay but not great. Clam chowder was too salty. They did not bring the food to the table at the same time causing the first person to finish their food way before anyone else even got theirs.

Mediocre at best. Very salty chowder with a very thin consistency. Fish and chips aren't fried, they are baked and seemed like they had been "baked" in a microwave. And to top it off, you're paying a pretty penny to feed your family.

Went into the chowder bowl in a whim while on vacation. Place has a cool train that goes around the wall but other the day that the place is horrrible. Chowder is 4.50 a bowl and is aweful. Its akin to creamy salt, basically no clam or other food of any kind in the dish. Stay away from this place.

Got right in on a Saturday night, no wait. Staff was friendly, food was fast and good. Great Halibut & Chowder!

As a native Oregonian, we've always eaten at the other notable chowder restaurant. However, a co-worker swears by the chowder at the Chowder Bowl, so we decided to stop in for a late lunch in the afternoon. We didn't have a problem getting a table since it was in between meals. The waitress was very friendly, and answered any questions we had about the menu options. The chowder was extremely delicious - much more creamy than most clam chowders I have had. The garlic bread was also tasty and really big. We enjoyed the meal - two bowls of chowder and bread. The cherry cokes came in huge glasses and we never had to wait for the waitress to come fill it up. We would definitely eat here again.

Kitsch run-down beach diner reputed to have a good clam chowder. Too starchy if you ask me, but it had clams, tasted OK. More impressed with halibut fish'n'chips. In season, fresh filet flash fried and served before we could finish our chowder. Not greasy at all, better than my favorite suburban gourmet in Portland (see Roots).

Food was good, chowder was good, Fish & Chips was good. But service was not very attentive. Pricing was on the low moderate side. I would go again just to see the choo choo that goes around the joint. Place was packed and seating was very tight.

Good enough that my 9 year old ordered seconds of his fish and chips! Cod filet was actually a true filet and not all breading. Calamari, oysters but most of all crab cocktail was unbelievably fresh. 4 stars, not 5, because my burger was overcooked however it's a seafood joint!

GREAT CHOWDER!!!!! Have eaten at Mo's for years BUT have tried Chowder Bowls chowder & it's creamier, richer, no sand & clammier! Great CHOWDER!

When you have "chowder"in the name of your restaurant, you should have good chowder. This was pitiful. There were 2 pieces of clam in the whole bowl and a few minuscule pieces of potato. I asked the waiter if they made their own homemade chowder and he said yes- I am pretty sure that is not true. If it is, they need a new recipe. I only had chowder so I cannot vouch for other food there, but I would agree with another review that the place is rip down, tacky and the service is lackluster. Still in search of a decent bowl of chowder in the central Oregon coast!

Had lunch here today and once again, it was fabulous. Ended up having the fish and chips with not 1, but 2 cups of chowder. Hand's down the best chowder I have had. I have had Mo's and this stuff makes Mo's look like thin soup. We went right in and was waited on fast and the waitress was very friendly and made sure to check on us frequently to see if we needed anything. We always go here when we visit Depoe Bay.

Wonderful chowder! Best on the coast.

Very friendly and clean for an old-timey coast cafe. It's a big open space with windows looking out onto 101 and the seawall beyond. Whimsical jigsawed sea animal cutouts hold up a shelf running around three walls with model trains displayed above. The chowder is excellent. It's a great place to duck into for lunch. It feels like the Oregon Coast of 20 or 30 years ago. Very friendly service, too.

This weekend we revisited the Chowder Bowl in Depot Bay. Long ago we had some wonderful simple meals there. I'm afraid to say those days appear to be no more. The last few times we've been there, over the course of the last year or two, things have gone downhill. It was never a fancy place, but it's gone from simple to beyond shabby. The service has gone from laid back and friendly to... I'm not sure what you call it when the two servers on staff actually fight and argue about who has what tables loudly enough for the whole place to hear. The food used to be simple but quality, such as large shrimp melts on home made bread... gone is the homemade bread. Probably a good idea to try other places anyway.

The chowder was very Snows-like. The fish and chips a bit greasy. Service was marginal at best. Not even close to the other Chowder Bowl at Nye Beach in Newport.

Good chowder. Good location. Not so good service. All we ordered was chowder for us and chicken strips for our 4 year old. Chowder came out in 5 minutes. Took 30 minutes to get kids meal and we had finished 15 minutes earlier. No apologies. No drink refills offered. Restaurant was only 25% full and we saw 2 other groups walk out because of no service. Fine if you have lots if time and aren't that hungry or thirsty. Advice to owners; Get some extra help, because even when you're not full, service was not up to par.

Service was ok but the food was awful. Think of the strangest off brand canned clam chowder you can find at the grocery food outlet and that is why you get served. The garlic bread is a soggy mess and the best part of the meal is the oyster crackers. $46 with tip for 3 people and none of us finished our bowls of soup. Thank god they serve beer!

First off the chowder was thick and had nice chunks of clams, but it had no flavor of clam chowder. The chowder had too much flower to make it thick. It tasted more like dumpling soup than clam chowder. Now the good part. The food! The Gold rush burger I was told tasted awesome by my Mother-in-law. Who said it was a bit messy, but still very good. My wife had the halibut and fries. I had the cod and fries bolth were great we traded bites on our lunches. My kids had a cord dog that was a bit over cooked but was still good and my other child had a PB&J, it was ok for a pb&j sandwich. (I tried bolth of my kids food FYI.) O yea I had their Oyster shooter. They come as a pair. I thought that was cool. They tasted good for ,and I'm guessing on this one, a glass jar oysters. They were nice a rinsed, no sand. I would get thoes again. If I go back to that area. The train that goes around is side the place and the decor were great for the kids and my self a bit dark but ok.. I gave it 3 stars because the chowder wasn't very good. The waitress was very nice to us. I'll give her 4 stars for how busy it was and still was pleasent to talk with.

Great place to eat! The food is simply amazing! The clam chowder was yummy and so were the oysters. They have something for everyone which is nice when you have picky kids like me!

I visited during a vacation and would not visit again to be honest. The waiter was pleasant, but busy also playing cashier. The service was a little slow, but he was aware and apologized. They were out of salad, but did comp one our entrees as a result. The tea tasted horrible and the shrimp cocktail was not very good. The clam chowder was the only bright spot.

Restaurant was filthy. Chowder tasted canned. Bread bowl was soggy mush. Took forever for just soup! I'll never eat there again.

We were concerned going into Chowder Bowl to begin with because it's pretty gross on the inside. The waitress - who clearly was having the worst day of her life - tossed menus on our table and wandered off. No hello, no I'll be right with you....and it appear this is a recurring theme at this place. We all played it safe and got chili and BLT sandwiches. The BLT sandwiches weren't bad - you can't mess those up. The fries tasted like the fish which isn't unusual considering they probably deep fry them in the oil. The fries were good, but would have been better if they weren't fishy. Chilli was clearly Nalley's from a can. I can honestly say that the waitress did not smile ONCE during our entire time there. Not one. single. time. Despite our attempts to ask how her day was going...just wasn't happening. Just spare yourself a poor experience and drive to Lincoln City. Also, while we were waiting for our food, the waitress was sitting at the salad bar in the back grazing on food while putting other people's food together. Yum.

Best place for food in Depoe Bay. Good variety on the menu and consistent. Also prices are fair for what you get. I go with the Club Car sandwhich or the Reuben. I'm not a chowder guy but the rest of my family is and they seem to like it.

Enjoyed our meal. Chowder was good. If my son likes it, it must be. He is a chowder snob after being a regular at Fishermans Grotto in Monterey that has the best. Yes it was a little salty as previous posts stated. I had the steamers which were really good. I liked the garlic butter they came in. They added mushrooms which were a good addition.

Hands down the best halibut fish and chips I have ever had! Friendly staff and good tartar.

Had a cup of clam chowder and the crab cakes, neither were anything to brag about! Clam Chowder was ok but lacking substance. The crab cakes really had no flavor. The crab was shredded and not lump crab but either way it was just really lacking flavor and almost had a doughy consistency.

My Life Mission is to find The BEST bacon cheese-booger in the Universe--or at least in the little piece of Heaven called the Central Oregon Coast. To that end, at The Chowder Bowl, I have found (to date----3+ years) on the Central Oregon Coast the Perfect Cheese-booger! . Tons of crispy bacon and melted cheeze, crispy/fresh lettuce: grilled onions but I always request fresh. Delish fries! This is a sister to the Cafe 60's in Lincoln City: same owners, same menu. Service can be slow if it's crowded, as often times there is only one wait person who also serves as cashier. But to me, the wait, if there is one, is worth it. I'm not a chowder fan, but recently ate there with two friends who both got the chowder: both liked it, but one was upset that there was a bit of grit (sand) in hers. The other friend said that meant it was fresh. I dunno...I took one bite and it was OK, but I wouldn't know 'good' chowder if it hit me on the head! The garlic bread was probably the best I have ever eaten in my entire life--but it's tough to make a whole meal out of garlic bread, no matter HOW good it is! (If they would only offer split pea soup, it would be the perfect adjunct to the bread---but then I'd have to either make a choice between that and a booger, or go twice as often). Alas, I digress.... Parking in Dopey Bay is often challenging---there is angle parking on both sides of the' street', but the 'street' IS Highway 101! I only 'treat' myself to this indulgence a couple of times a year, but I savor each and every bite. With a tall glass of cold milk! YUM! Now I'm hungry!!! :)

Prices were about the same as all the other places on the strip. Service was fine but there was only one server and one cook which meant you do not get all the service you might need. The food looked like they pulled it out of a Costco box and microwaved it. Not very satisfying. Try somewhere else if you are looking for a good experience.
